I am flying at 33,000 feet somewhere over Greenland processing a very powerful week. This flight isn’t full so I moved quickly to take a window/aisle combo seat before everyone else started moving around. It is so nice to be able to spread out on these long flights.
I will continue to process what God has taught me this week but here are a few of the topics that stood out.
Scripture. If we would just read a passage of Scripture slowly and start asking who, what, when, why, where and how questions, you will discover treasures of truth that you can apply to your life immediately. And the impact will be tremendous. I have gone over several passages for years and I keep learning from them. God wants to speak to you through the Bible. You have been given wisdom if we would only take a little bit of time and see what He has. I promise you it will be well worth your time.
Culture. We are so culturally diverse in our world and preach unity to one another, but we really don’t take the time to try and understand each other’s culture. As a result, we are more divided than ever. People, stop talking and start listening. Ask questions. Winning an argument often creates a losing situation for everyone. Before you adamantly take a stand either way, it would be best to find out more about the person you are talking about this with. If you don’t know where the other person is coming from, you need to just zip it and be quiet. Show respect and honor one another. We have two eyes, two ears and one mouth. Use them in those proportions.
Trust. Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and he will make your paths straight. When you are walking with the Lord and are in constant communication, He will guide you. I experience this daily in Uganda trip after trip and you can read the blog to get a glimpse about ho true this can be, When I return home and tend to get more caught up in the world, I lose the ability to listen. I tend to try to take back control that I was never intended to have and then try to run my life on my own power. I don't want to do that anymore.
Relationships. Of course, these kids were respectful from the beginning as they have know me for years. But every day I was interacting with them, our relationship grew by leaps and bounds. As I became more confident in their names and personalities, I could better interact with them individually. They trusted me and great progress was made as the week went by. I need to do this much more intentionally with the people God has placed in my life back home.
I think today's entry was a little heady and might be more for me. Sorry if it is not very clear.
Thank you for taking this journey with me and I hope God used these stories to draw you closer to Him. If you every want to talk about any of this in more detail, please reach out to me.
