It’s Sunday which means everyone will dress up and head off to church. I took my regular 3 mile walk through the different communities learning little nuances that I can pick up along the way.
Watoto South is the church we have attended many times before. It is one of the most perfect layouts for church because it is a giant tent with open air sides. It sits on the side of a hill with beautiful views across the valley below and into the hillside on the other side. And it was probably 85 degrees with a slight breeze.
The worship/singing was very African with 6 leaders and a small choir of 20 people. It was fun to sing new songs and watch everyone getting into the flow. The pastor’s message was one of the most relevant I have heard in a long time. He talked about the Nation of Uganda as a family. It was very good.
Those two hours went by quickly and led to a number of interesting conversations afterwards bringing up the issues I had been talking about with them: truth vs culture.
We had the rest of the day to play and do chores, but there was only one thing on everyone’s mind. Pizza! I promised I would take them for a farewell pizza party on Sunday night and it was finally here.
We arrived around 5:30 to a beach front pizza joint with a large outdoor pizza oven.
We placed our orders and waited. It was a beautiful evening and setting. 1 hour went by. They apologized. Then another. More apologies. Then another hour and finally at 8:30 our pizza started to come out. Every single piece was devoured and 20 minutes later they were all done.
We headed back home and went to bed, but not until every single person came to me and thanked them for such a wonderful meal. One more day . . .
